Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital (SKMH) is a highly specialized medical center located in Sankhu, Kathmandu, and was established in 1997 under the management of the Sushma Koirala Memorial Trust (SKMT). The hospital is named in memory of the Late Madam Sushma Koirala, and its establishment was a collaborative effort with Interplast Germany e.V., reflecting its original mission to serve the underprivileged.

SKMH stands out within the Nepalese healthcare landscape as a leading center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, specializing in complex cases such as severe burn care, cleft lip/palate repair, and various post-trauma and congenital deformities. It is also an integral part of the Sushma Koirala Memorial Nursing Campus, serving as a vital training and practical experience ground for aspiring nursing professionals.

The hospital has a deep philanthropic focus, often providing treatment, including surgery and post-operative care, free of charge to the local poor population, particularly children under 18 suffering from burn injuries. The hospital’s specialized focus means patients are often referred from all over the country due to the scarcity of facilities equipped to handle severe burns and complex reconstructive cases.

With ongoing support from international partners, like the medical equipment recently donated by the Government of Japan for severe burn patients, SKMH continues to enhance its capabilities in its core specialty
