Bir Hospital is the nation’s first public hospital established in 1889 by the Rana Prime Minister Bir Shumsher. Ever since, the hospital has been a bastion for the citizen of Nepal and even for those who cannot afford to seek treatment anywhere else. Every day, above 1000 patients visit the hospital after being referred by local healthcare centers across the nation. The hospital is operated by the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), an academic body directly under the Ministry of Health.
The Vice Chancellor of National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital, Prof. Dr. Dev Narayan Shah receives the support from Sowers Action (SA), Hong Kong, China and Volunteer Corps Nepal (VCN) last Tuesday. Deepak Chapagain, Radha Matangi and Saroj Ray, President, Vice President and Global Goodwill Ambassador of VCN handed over the support to the hospital.
Representatives from Resident Association of NAMS, Bir Hospital (RAN), Dr. Anup and Dr. Nicolas were also present during the handover program. Dr. Anup mentioned about the initiatives of RAN about COVID FUND to support the hospital and the support from VCN to the hospital has helped them. Dr. Nicolas stated that, they are continuously fighting since day 1 to ease the service of the hospital and get rid of unavailabity of medical equipment. Dr. Shah greatly appreciate the initiatives of Sowers Action (SA), Hong Kong and Volunteer Corps Nepal (VCN) to support frontline health workers.
The support includes 100 sets of PPE, 10 oxygen cylinders, 10 sets of oximeters, 80pcs N95 Masks, 50lt. Sanitizer, 80pkts Gloves, 80 rolls of Tissue Paper, and 1000pcs Triple Layer Surgical Mask. According to Radha Matangi, Vice President of VCN, Sowers Action and VCN have already supported Changragiri Primary Hospital, Siddhi Memorial Hospital and Bhaktapur Hospital before this.
