As Buddha said:  “You will not be punished for your anger;  you will be punished by your anger.” Similarly, do you or your loved ones, or your coworkers, often find yourselves becoming upset, aggressive, or resorting to physical actions over trivial issues? This behavior not only leads to societal violence but also has lasting physical consequences on them, such as heightened anxiety, elevated blood pressure, and frequent headaches. The answer lies in this solution; According to the latest research from the University of Pennsylvania suggest that consuming an omega-3 supplement can help decrease aggressive and violent tendencies.

Typically, individuals who are prone to anger or aggression have inflamed cells in their brain, leading to imbalances in brain neurotransmitters. Omega-3 fatty acids, however, possess properties that reduce inflammation in the brain and boost the production of dopamine and serotonin. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis is responsible for how the body reacts to stress, and omega-3s assist in regulating this axis, resulting in a more balanced response to stress and a lower likelihood of aggressive behavior.

Although the Omega-3 capsules are widely accessible in the market, it can also be obtain from food.  Some of the common foods rich Omega-3s are salmon, tuna, flaxseed, chia seeds, walnuts, soybean oil, and canola oil.

In addition to decreasing aggressive and violent actions, Omega-3 offers numerous other health advantages. It helps lower blood pressure, decrease levels of triglycerides in the bloodstream, aids in reducing inflammation in joints related to rheumatoid disease, supports the health of the brain and eyes, assists in the prevention and management of conditions like dementia, depression, asthma, migraines, and diabetes, and reduces the likelihood of developing heart disease and ischemic stroke.

While Omega-3 isn’t a magic bullet for ending violence in society, but incorporating it into your diet through capsules or foods rich in it might help in reducing the likelihood of aggressive or violent reactions.

Recent studies from the University of Pennsylvania indicate that omega-3 supplements can decrease aggression by 30%, regardless of age or gender. Further, extensive research on this topic is required. Additionally, adopting long-term approaches to managing anger, such as consistent physical activity, practicing relaxation methods, and seeking counseling, is beneficial.
