Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant public health challenge in Nepal, with the country ranking among the high TB burden countries globally.

TB Tuberculosis

TB is an infectious disease that most often affects the lungs. TB is caused by a type of bacteria. It spreads through the air when infected people cough, sneeze or spit. TB is preventable and curable.

Efforts to combat TB in Nepal have been integrated into the national healthcare system, with the National Tuberculosis Control Programme (NTP) leading the charge.

The program focuses on enhancing TB detection, treatment, and prevention strategies. Despite these efforts, challenges such as co-infection with HIV, multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), and the impact of socio-economic factors continue to complicate the eradication efforts.

Nonetheless, Nepal has made commendable progress in TB control, achieving notable reductions in prevalence and mortality rates over the past decades through concerted efforts in public health interventions and international collaborations.
